Eagles of the Mississippi River - 2008
These eagles were found on the Mississippi River near Burlington, Iowa. They congregate near the open waters of Lock & Dam #18. The river north of this dam is frozen over, so the eagles migrate from the North to here so they can fish. There were HUNDREDS of eagles in this area, and the scene was almost surreal, as there were ALWAYS multiple eagles in the air searching for a fish to swoop down and pick up.

This adult eagle extends his talons towards a branch as he lands on his perch. A juvenile eagle is already in the tree.
The juvenile eagles are reddish-brown in color and do not get the white crown and white tail until they mature; usually at age 4 or 5 years.
